Job summary

Community Nursing has a fantastic opportunity to complete Health Assessment training alongside V300 Prescribing through the District Nurse Specialist Practitioner Qualification.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to work in a Band 6 Trainee District Nurse role whilst developing clinical, leadership and theoretical skills in District Nursing.

Our Band 6 Trainee District Nurse role guarantees UHB funding and support for your university application onto the Specialist Practitioner course, subject to successful university clearance. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your community nursing career and leadership skills.

We will consider applicants who require flexible working, condensed hours or part-time hours; however, on commencement of the course there is a requirement to meet the demands of the Specialist Practitioner programme, which is currently a full-time commitment, Monday to Friday, for 18 months.

Candidates must have completed Level 7 study to be eligible for the course and have substantial experience as a Band 5 Registered Nurse. Community nursing experience is essential.

This rewarding role involves the effective management of a defined community caseload, including patients with complex needs. You will be responsible for delivering high standards of evidence-based care, while providing specialist advice and leadership, and supporting the development of junior staff and students through supervision, mentorship and assessment.

Applicants must have substantial post-registration experience as a Band 5 Registered Nurse and relevant community nursing experience.

Our core hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm. However, you will be required to work flexibly to meet service needs between 7.00am and 9.00pm, across 7 days on a rota basis. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.

Our Community Nursing teams are based in Central Solihull, Shirley, Chelmsley Wood and Balsall Common, providing care to patients registered with a Solihull GP. Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC)
• Evidence of willingness to undertake post graduate academic study and ability to evidence university requirement at Level 6/7 study
• Evidence of recent accredited Level 6/7 study (as per university entry requirements)
• Evidence of postgraduate diploma level training or equivalent experience in a community field with a programme or knowledge or a combination of on-the-job experience as a Band 5 Community Nurse (or equivalent) and short courses enabling autonomous community nursing provision.
• Practice assessor

Experience

• Demonstrable experience as a Community Registered Nurse
• Experience as a practice supervisor and willingness to work towards becoming a practice assessor
• Demonstrable ability / experience in working in a multi professional approach to health care delivery in community setting and can appreciate the complexities of patient access/ care and treatment across Primary / Secondary and Social health care within the NHS
• Demonstrable knowledge / experience of current context of Community Nursing and can relate this to NHS Policy and local / system approaches to health care delivery
• Experience in the supervision, mentoring and assessment of learners and junior staff.
• Experience in supporting the review and development and updating of policy and procedure.
• Experience in supporting service change and improvement in a health and care related practice setting.
• Demonstrable evidence of working in the NHS as a Community Registered Nurse

• Ability to work effectively under pressure and to prioritise important tasks to tight deadlines whilst ensuring quality standards are maintained.
• Tactful and able to build good working relations.
• Ability to work as part of a team and autonomously.
• Good IT skills ability to record information electronically.
• Being able to work on a flexible shift pattern to cover service needs across 7 days
• Must have a full in date UK car driving licence with access to a vehicle, successful candidate must have business car insurance
