A regional mental health service provider in the UK is seeking a Band 6 Specialist Practitioner for their Urgent Care Service. The role involves providing immediate triage and advice for mental health needs, working collaboratively with various internal and external teams. The BSW 111 Urgent Care Team provide immediate triage and advice to members of the public who are concerned about a mental health urgent care need. Whether that be for themselves, or a loved one, we are there to offer that help and support to people when they need it most.
You will be part of an exciting and developing team, which is part of the National Implementation Programme. This called for better 24hr mental health care. This in turn brought about the national 111 - Option 2 system, which subsequently brought about this service.
Applications are welcome from RMN'S, SW'S and OT's, You will work collaboratively with both internal and external Services to enhance the current mental health care provision across the BANES/Swindon/Wiltshire (BSW) system.
These services include- Intensive Services, Acute Hospital Liaison Teams, Care Home Liaison, Police MH Control Room Triage and Health based place of safety. The team have also recently started working with the local CAMHS services, this is to enable us to provide specialist overnight advice and guidance to those particular service users as well.
The majority of the role will include undertaking telephone based triage, making onward referrals to services when clinically indicated, and providing advice and guidance to service users and carers, and other statutory and commissions services.
The BSW 111 Urgent Care Service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
The team work Early, Late and Night shifts and candidates will be expected to work across that 24hr shift pattern.
The practitioner will genuinely care about the outcome for our service users, they will be ensuring the needs of the service users and carers are at the heart of the service delivery.
You would be working alongside our Band 4 recovery Coordinators, providing supervision and guidance and escalation calls that require specialist input.
The BSW 111 UCS provides overnight cover for various services (such as Intensive Services and CAMHS), whilst also providing our 111 option 2 service. You will be expected to liaise with internal and external professionals ie. Police, Paramedics, GP's.
One of our overnight services is to provide input to our Acute Hospital Trusts, in a Mental Health Liaison role within their Emergency Departments. Our specialist practitioners will be expected to undertake assessments for service users in those departments where indicated, this is through both face to face, and using the 'DrDoctor' system.
As a practitioner, you will be confident and feel able to challenge clinical practice effectively, this is to ensure that service users receive the most appropriate support in their recovery Journey.
You will be able to work collaboratively with a range of professionals and statutory agencies with their own, at times, competing agency demands.

This post is open to newly qualified social workers. In line with trust policy, all newly qualified social workers will be recruited initially at Band 5 level, regardless of advertised role banding. All NQSWs are expected to successfully complete their ASYE within 2 years of employment, unless there are exceptional circumstances in which case it may be agreed to extend this for a further 2 years.
On successful completion of the ASYE, for which you will be given full support of an experienced Social Worker as well as Divisional Social Work Lead, and peer support from other ASYE candidates, you will then be eligible to progress to a Band 6 position.
If you have been appointed to an advertised Band 6 role this will be an automatic progression, following confirmation of your successful completion. If you have been appointed to a Band 5 you will then be eligible to apply for a subsequent Band 6 vacancy.
