Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Diagnostic Radiographer in West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, working at one of our three sites: Watford General, Hemel Hempstead, or St Albans. You will be an effective and proactive member of the Radiography team, delivering a high standard of radiographic services to Radiologists and patients while supervising junior staff and students. The role includes participation in our 24/7 shift system and additional rotas across all three sites.

We will also consider Band 5 Radiographer for this role.

Main Duties of the Job

As a Senior Diagnostic Radiographer, you will be responsible for the establishment and ongoing maintenance of quality assurance programmes, actively participate in and, where required, lead clinical audit projects. Engagement in the Radiology Clinical Governance programme is essential. The role also involves training staff and students in the safe and effective use of X-ray department equipment, supervising junior team members, and providing support and guidance as needed. You will be expected to stay updated with professional developments in Radiology, attend relevant seminars and courses, and maintain accurate, up-to-date records of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in line with HCPC requirements. A core aspect of the role is to prioritise patient welfare and comfort at all times.

Job Roles & Responsibilities
  • To perform imaging procedures across multiple modalities, including CT, MRI, Fluoroscopy, and General Imaging, ensuring accuracy and adherence to departmental protocols.
  • To assist in the daily management of the X-ray Department, supporting Lead Radiographers to maintain operational efficiency and high service standards.
  • To act as a deputy for Superintendent or Lead Radiographers when required, taking responsibility for departmental oversight in their absence.
  • To conduct regular checks and monitoring of imaging equipment, promptly reporting any faults or malfunctions to the relevant management.
  • To maintain accurate departmental records, including logging equipment issues and managing computer systems in line with data protection regulations.
  • To ensure the X-ray Department is well-stocked, organized, and maintained to a safe and hygienic standard, including checking supplies and keeping work areas tidy.
Person Specification & Qualification
  • DCR(R) or BSc Radiography
  • HCPC registration
  • Experience across modalities, especially CT
  • NHS work experience and up-to-date CPD
  • PgD in cross-sectional imaging & familiarity with CRIS and PACS (desirable)
