Overview

A Vacancy at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The crown and bridge section of the Production Laboratory deal with complex cases including implant retained medical devices as well as full mouth reconstructions as well as less complex work. We support a range of clinical colleagues and work closely with them regarding the patient workflow, as we are on site it gives us the great opportunity to be able liaise with our patients and be part of their journey when needed, to offer help and advice. We are also a key part in our dental students learning as we help to support them during their training. Good communication is key and an all around knowledge of crown and bridge work is needed as well as being good at time management of your workload, as we complete our work from start to finish, so you will be responsible for the job all the way through. All of our metal work is completed on cadcam now using Exocad and 3shape. We are a large team and between all 3 sections at peak time, complete between 2,500 and 3,500 units of work per month.

Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate and prioritise daily personal workload to meet laboratory deadlines on a daily basis to meet service requirements.

To contribute to the supervision and training of the technical work of lower grade laboratory staff and students.

The post holder is responsible for achieving a consistently high standard in the production of precision and highly complex fixed prosthodontics osseo-integrated implant supported structures and restorations including both single and multi-unit metal bonded to ceramic, all ceramic restorations using semi and fully adjustable articulators.

The post holder is responsible for the planning, design and construction of simple, hybrid, complex and evolutionary restorative appliances, in conjunction with Consultants and Senior Clinical Staff.

Plan, design and construct diagnostic wax-ups for treatment planning and support the clinician in evaluating patient’s expectations and provide them with detailed information by communication with staff. Evaluate the quality, ensuring the dental prescription and items supplied from the clinic area are of sufficient quality to proceed with the construction of restorations.

The post holder is responsible for discussing with and advising Undergraduate Students on matters of techniques, restoration design and material selection.

Clinically assist and advise Consultants, Senior and Junior Clinical Staff and Undergraduate Students with shade matching with regards to patient expectations.

Construct Pro-scan radiographic stents and implant placement guides.

Plan, designs and constructs diagnostic wax-ups, including occlusal splints, both hard and soft for treatment planning. TMJ analysis and occlusal rehabilitation cases.

To be proficient in the production in the above mentioned the post holder will need to be familiar with the use of porcelain, composite materials, precious and non-precious cast dental alloys including the production of precision working models.

Assist in the routine day-to-day running of the laboratory and assist Undergraduate students, Clinical and nursing staff with enquiries and the collection of completed work using the laboratory dedicated Microsoft Access computer system.
