Job summary

HCRG Care Group is seeking an SCPHN - School Nurse to join the Surrey team, delivering the Healthy Child Programme within a multidisciplinary setting. You will assess health needs, implement evidence-based interventions, and contribute to safeguarding and immunisation delivery.

The role includes line management of a mixed 0–19 team, mentorship of students, and driving quality improvement with clinical leadership. Applicants must hold SCPHN and NMC Part 3 registration.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) with SCPHN - School Nurse qualification and current NMC Part 3 registration.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development and transferable clinical skills.
• Knowledge of NHS and CYP public health priorities.
• Experience in leadership, multi-disciplinary teamwork, and service improvement (audits, research, change management).
• Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills, including prioritising, delegation and managing complex situations.
• Competent in IT and digital record-keeping.

Are you searching for a role that offers variety, growth, and support ? As a SCPHN School Nurse, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering the Healthy Child Programme.

Supported by the clinical team lead , the SCPHN School Nurse will carry continuing responsibility for the assessment of health needs, including the development, implementation and evaluation/audit of evidence-based interventions.

The SCPHN School Nurse will take responsibility for ensuring the quality and standard of care and delivery of an effective school nursing service to improve outcomes for the local school aged population. The SCPHN School Nurse will participate in delivering a universal core service, and provide targeted interventions, to address health inequalities, where necessary referring to specialist services. This role will also include safeguarding responsibilities, supporting the delivery of the school immunisations programme, mentorship of students, line management of a skill mixed 0-19 team and staff appraisals .

Main Responsibilities

• Lead and support a skill-mixed team to deliver safe, equitable services within the 5–19 Healthy Child Programme.
• Prioritise high-risk cases, delegate effectively, and promote development through supervision and appraisal.
• Build positive relationships with schools, families, and multidisciplinary partners, working with wider agencies to ensure integrated support for children and young people.
• Provide assessments, targeted interventions, immunisations, and specialist clinics. Identify unmet needs, make referrals, and deliver care in line with safeguarding procedures.
• Plan and deliver health promotion in PSHE, groups, and one-to-one sessions, support drop‑in clinics, and contribute to service initiatives.
• Respond promptly to safeguarding concerns, attend protection meetings, and maintain clear, compliant documentation.
• Communicate effectively with varied audiences and maintain accurate, confidential records and reports.
• Manage your own workload and support team priorities, contributing to service planning, audits, and continuous improvement.
• Support protocol development, lead audits, provide commissioning data, and promote evidence-based practice.
• Maintain equipment, report replacement needs, and support infection control and immunisation uptake.
• Work within NMC standards, maintain CPD, and support junior staff development under the guidance of the Clinical Team Lead.

Ideal Candidate

Essential

• Registered Nurse (RN1) with SCPHN - School Nurse qualification and current NMC Part 3 registration
• Evidence of ongoing professional development and transferable clinical skills
• Knowledge of NHS and CYP public health priorities
• Experience in leadership, multi-disciplinary teamwork, and service improvement (e.g. audits, research, change management)
• Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to prioritise, delegate, and manage complex situations
• Competent in IT and digital record-keeping
• Resilient, adaptable, and professional with high personal integrity

Desirable

• Registered Nurse - Child Branch
• Mentorship or supervision qualifications (e.g. Child Protection Supervisor, Clinical Supervision Facilitator)
• Additional training: PSHE delivery, sexual health, immunisation (incl. 2-day foundation)
• Recent experience working directly with CYP and families
• Completion of safeguarding modules

Other requirements
