University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 6 Paediatric Occupational Therapist for a fixed-term post supporting the SEND Reform and collaboration with Speech and Language Therapy colleagues. The role focuses on school-based Paediatrics, with supervision of junior staff and development of a new pathway.

Responsibilities include leading training on sensory processing, motor and self-care skills, and working within a multi-disciplinary team with evidence-based practice.

Qualifications

GCSEs (including A – C grade in English & Maths, or equivalent).
Passes at A level (or equivalent).
Diploma/Degree or MSc in Occupational Therapy or equivalent overseas qualification.
Registration with HCPC.

Support the implementation of universal, targeted, and specialist interventions.
Lead in the creation and delivery of training packages which consider key areas such as sensory processing, motor skills and self-care skills.
Work confidently and effectively within the multi-disciplinary team, making recommendations, monitor outcomes and gather feedback from key stakeholders.
To provide formal supervision and leadership within the team to junior members of the team.
To participate in service analysis and development to ensure practice is evidence based.
To be able to work within trust policies.
To keep accurate and up to date case notes.
To have an ability to cope with flexible working patterns and adapt to change, capacity and demand.
To have excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
To have high organisation and time management skills.

Job Summary

Are you passionate about empowering children and young people to fulfil their potential in daily occupations such as self-care, school and leisure?

This post is a fixed term position to support the Experts at Hand (EAH) Plan associated with the SEND Reform. This is an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively with Speech and Language Therapy colleagues to provide an enhanced service for early years, primary and secondary school settings. This role will include working within the core service alongside the EAH plan.

We are looking for an experienced Band 6 OT, who shows a passion for school-based Paediatrics and is motivated to develop their skills and knowledge within a supportive environment. We value new ideas and contributions to develop this new pathway.

Post graduate experience of advanced clinical reasoning within a range of occupational performance components (Motor, Perception, cognitive, sensory, ADLS) including examples(E)
Experience of supporting junior members of staff
Demonstration of Specialist knowledge of paediatric conditions including DCD, cerebral palsy, autism, sensory processing needs (E)
Specialist knowledge and experience of paediatric assessments and interventions (E)
Specialist knowledge and experience of meeting the needs of families of children with complex needs (E)
Knowledge of clinical governance and its application to community settings (E)
An in depth knowledge of safeguarding issues including children and families(E)

Desirable

Experience working within a paediatric community MDT.
