Job summary

Sanctuary Personnel is seeking a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the AHP – Occupational Therapy team in Leicester. This locum role offers full-time hours working within a busy Acute Medicine service, conducting assessments, rehabilitation, and discharge planning to promote independence and safe patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Occupational Therapy.
• Current HCPC registration.
• Minimum six months NHS experience within the UK.
• Experience in acute inpatient settings, particularly Acute Medicine.
• Experience supporting discharge planning and hospital flow initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Provide OT assessments and interventions within an acute medicine ward setting.
• Assess and treat acute inpatients, focusing on functional ability and rehabilitation needs.
• Develop person-centred treatment plans to maximise recovery and promote safe discharge outcomes.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated patient care.
• Facilitate discharge planning activities to support patient flow.
• Assess environmental, functional and equipment needs to support safe hospital transitions.
• Manage a diverse caseload with timely interventions.
• Provide advice, education and support to patients, families and carers.
• Maintain accurate clinical records per standards and policies.
• Contribute to service improvement and high-quality OT services.

Requirements:

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy.
• Current HCPC registration.
• Previous experience working within acute inpatient settings, particularly Acute Medicine services.
• Experience supporting discharge planning and hospital flow initiatives.
• Minimum of six months’ recent NHS experience within the UK.
• Strong assessment, rehabilitation, and clinical reasoning skills.
• Excellent communication and multidisciplinary working abilities.
• Ability to manage a varied caseload effectively within a fast-paced environment.
