Job Title: Locum Haematology/Blood Transfusion Biomedical Scientist

£26 – £28 per hour

Working Hours:

Monday to Friday – 24/7 shift (flexible)

Role Overview:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and experienced Band 6 Locum Biomedical Scientist to join our client’s Haematology and Blood Transfusion team at a reputable NHS Trust in Redhill. This role is ideal for a motivated professional confident working in a fast-paced laboratory environment, delivering high-quality diagnostic services that directly impact patient care. The successful candidate will contribute to the smooth running of the department, ensuring compliance with UKAS standards and Trust protocols.

Responsibilities:
  1. Perform diagnostic tests within Haematology and Blood Transfusion, including cross-matching and serology.
  2. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as Alinity HQ, Alinity HS, ACL TOP 550, Neo Iris, and use the WinPath Laboratory Information Management System.
  3. Analyze patient samples, validate results, participate in quality control procedures, and support junior staff.
  4. Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, with flexibility to work shifts if required.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
  • Minimum of 2 years’ post-registration experience in Haematology and Blood Transfusion
  • Proven competence in cross-matching and serological techniques
  • Proficient in using Alinity HQ, Alinity HS, ACL TOP 550, Neo Iris, and WinPath
  • Experience working in a UKAS-accredited laboratory
  • Strong understanding of quality assurance and laboratory safety procedures
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Flexibility to work shifts if required
