Job summary

Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated clinician to support autism services across the city. You will work within the MDT, coordinating assessments, reporting outcomes and ensuring caregiver involvement throughout all activities.

The role requires experience with children with disabilities, strong leadership and collaboration across agencies, and commitment to safeguarding and quality improvement in service delivery.

Qualifications

  • Degree or relevant clinical qualification (NMC RSCN, Learning Disability, Health Visiting, School Nursing, Midwifery)
  • Evidence of continuous professional development relevant to this area of work
  • Desirable: ADOS assessment or experience in autism assessments

Responsibilities

  • Work with Clinical Service Coordinators & Service Clinical Manager for NDP autism service to meet local and national standards
  • Develop relationships with providers across agencies/sectors to promote inclusive practice for children with additional needs
  • Undertake assessments and develop care programmes for children as part of the MDT across locations
  • Be a member of the MDT for diagnosis discussions following assessment
  • Write reports on assessment outcomes
  • Ensure parent/carer involvement is central to activities
  • Organise clinics, groups, assessments and reviews to meet patient needs and service guidelines
  • Liaise with health professionals and other agencies to ensure optimum care during assessments
  • Provide clinical advice to maintain quality and safety, linking with safeguarding leads and other managers
  • Support reviews with timely reporting
  • Ensure clinical reviews occur within service procedures timelines
  • Undertake clinical supervision with relevant staff

Job description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  1. To work with the Clinical Service Coordinators & Service Clinical Manager for the NDP autism service to ensure that services provided meet local and national standards applicable to the work undertaken within the service
  2. To support the service in developing positive and effective relationships and partnership working with providers across all agencies/sectors in the area, promoting inclusive practice to the benefit of children with additional needs
  3. To undertake assessments and develop programmes of care for children as part of the multi-disciplinary team at a variety of locations across the city including schools and health centres.
  4. Be a Member of the MDT for discussion and decision making on diagnosis following assessment.
  5. Undertake writing of reports for the outcome of assessment.
  6. Ensure that parent/carer involvement, engagement and participation is at the core of all activities planned and undertaken.
  7. To clinically support in the organisation of appropriate clinics, groups, assessments and reviews, ensuring they are congruent with patient need, and to work with the operational team to ensure that they are delivered in an efficient, effective and inclusive manner, following agreed service guidelines and processes.
  8. Liaise with health care professionals and colleagues from other agencies to ensure children receive the optimum care when attending assessments.
  9. Provide appropriate clinical advice to members of the team to ensure that quality and safety is maintained, linking in with other staff as needed, i.e. Safeguarding leads, Health Visitors and other key clinical managers.
  10. Support reviews as and when required, ensuring reports are completed in a timely fashion.
  11. Ensure that clinical reviews are undertaken within the expected timeframes of the service operating procedure.
  12. Undertake clinical supervision with relevant clinical staff.

Essential criteria

Desirable criteria
  • ADOS assessment or an ability to undertake or experience in autism assessments
Experience
Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of working in relevant children's services, including working with children with additional health needs/disabilities including Autism and ADHD with a focus on recognising risk
  • Experience of management of staff
  • Knowledge of relevant HR policies
  • Engagement of people who are socially excluded, disabled or disadvantaged, including seeking and responding to feedback/complaints.
  • Experience of managing/supporting change in the work environment

  • Good understanding of the local and national perspective and strategy for the NHS and related areas of health and children's services, particularly those pertinent to children with disabilities

  • Sound knowledge of safeguarding issues and practice and evidence of up-to-date training in this area
