Job summary

We are seeking a Biochemistry Biomedical Scientist to join a busy NHS biochemistry department in Burton, Staffordshire. The role supports a 24/7 shift system and requires HCPC registration, NHS experience, and a degree in Biomedical Science.

Salary is £22–£26 per hour, with full-time hours at 37.5 per week. You will perform specialist biochemical analyses, maintain quality standards and deliver accurate diagnostic results.

Qualifications

• NHS biochemistry experience is essential.
• Post-registration experience in clinical biochemistry is required.
• Experience within a 24/7 shift system is desirable.
• Familiarity with analyser maintenance and quality control procedures is expected.
• Experience using Roche analysers and Winpath LIMS is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Conduct biochemical tests on patient samples and validate results.
• Provide detailed reports to assist in diagnosis and treatment.
• Assist with analyser maintenance and respond to phone requests including add-ons.
• Contribute to the quality management system and NHS protocols.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high standards of patient care.

Key Responsibilities

As a Biochemistry Biomedical Scientist, you will be responsible for conducting biochemical tests on patient samples, validating results, and providing detailed reports to assist in diagnosis and treatment. You will be involved in analyser maintenance, handling phone requests including add-ons, and contributing to all aspects of the quality management system. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care and uphold high standards of laboratory practice in line with NHS protocols.

Qualifications and Experience

• HCPC registration (essential)
• Degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent
• NHS experience is essential
• Post-registration experience in clinical biochemistry
• Completion of or working towards a specialist portfolio in clinical biochemistry (desirable)
• Experience working within a 24/7 shift system
• Familiarity with analyser maintenance and quality control procedures
• Experience using Roche series analysers and Winpath LIMS (advantageous)
