Job description
Overview

We’re looking for a dedicated and compassionate Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our Emergency Department team. This role offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced clinical environment, providing high-quality care to patients presenting with acute illness or injury. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll be involved in the assessment, planning, and delivery of care for a diverse patient group. You’ll contribute to a supportive and collaborative working culture, where patient safety and dignity are at the heart of everything we do. This position is ideal for nurses who are confident in their clinical skills, adaptable to changing situations, and committed to continuous learning. You’ll gain valuable experience in emergency care while being supported in your professional development.

To work within multidisciplinary teams to assess, plan and implement care & treatment for all types emergency presentations - adults, paediatrics resuscitation/ trauma/ minor injuries & illnesses and the acutely unwell. This will include supporting their relatives and carers and providing end of life care. Teaching and supporting students in practice.

Responsibilities
  • To maintain up to date knowledge of and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct and other regulations, and Trust policies and protocols (for example the storage and administration of drugs).
  • Use good communication skills to disseminate information and promote and maintain good working relationships within the department and trust wide.
  • Promote the use of communication skills to overcome language and understanding difficulties when discussing complex or sensitive issues relating to diagnosis, prognosis and treatment with patients and their relatives. Be able to communicate effectively with patients, relatives and the multidisciplinary team both face to face and over the phone.
  • Be able to show empathy and compassion on a frequent basis, when caring for people who are experiencing bereavement or have a relative who is critically ill.
  • Be able to use communication skills when taking telephone queries about medical conditions or injuries, the condition of patients or from patients or their relatives who have a complaint.
Teaching and Support
  • Teaching and supporting students in practice.
Qualifications and Expectations
  • Band 5 Staff Nurse in Emergency Department (or equivalent) with the ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Confidence in clinical skills, adaptability to changing situations, and commitment to continuous learning.
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and provide care for adults, paediatrics, resuscitation/trauma/minor injuries and acutely unwell patients.
  • Experience in supporting relatives, carers, and providing end of life care where appropriate.
  • Strong communication skills to engage with patients, relatives, and the multidisciplinary team, including telephone communication and triage.
