Doulton HDU is a 6-bedded Surgical HDU that cares for level 2 patients following the elective Cardiovascular pathway, surgeries requiring complex support such as non‑invasive ventilation, high‑flow oxygen therapy, inotropes, thrombolysis and recovery from a variety of surgical procedures.

Here is your chance for a fresh beginning, within a Critical Care directorate. The directorate has over 100 critical care beds and is worldwide known for the most advances in treatments to the sickest of patients.
You will receive excellent induction supported by the Critical Care Practice Development Team. As you develop you will have the opportunity in the future to apply for either the Intensive Care Course or our Cardiac Module and given ample study leave.

Qualifications and Experience
- Experienced and motivated nurses willing to learn and thrive under pressure.
- Band 5 Staff Nurse in a large Critical Care department.
- High Dependency or Intensive Care experience preferred; no previous critical care experience required.
- Current NMC registration and post‑registration experience.
Responsibilities
- Carry out clinical practice within designated clinical areas, ensuring high quality, evidence‑based nursing assessment, care planning, implementation, interventions and evaluations from admission through to discharge.
- Apply knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices underpinned by theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
- Ensure patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, respecting customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
- Recognise and avoid situations detrimental to the health and wellbeing of individuals.
- Recognise the significance of observations made, and use them to develop and initiate nursing assessments and devise a plan of care.
- Carry out necessary activities to conduct a comprehensive assessment of nursing requirements.
- Ensure all patients have a discharge plan that is safe and appropriate for their needs.
- Carry out nursing procedures and treatments, checking on and maintaining the highest possible standards.
- Work alongside the multi‑disciplinary team to ascertain treatments and advise on nursing priorities.
- Take a clear and concise history from patients by assessing their health and wellbeing and complete documentation ensuring all entries are accurate, legible and all information systems are maintained.
- Undertake prescribed physical observations such as blood pressure, temperature, respirations, blood sugars, urinalysis, weight and height, and report exceptions appropriately.
- Administrate prescribed medication including transfusion of blood and blood products.
- Be wholly accountable for practice in line with the NMC code of professional conduct and continually improve knowledge and professional competence.
- Familiarise with Health and Safety at Works Act, ward fire, manual handling and C.O.S.H.H. policies and ensure all nurses in the ward are aware of the policies.
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team regarding patient care.
