Job description

The Royal Free Emergency Department is passionate about getting it right for patients and their families. Are you looking for a challenge? We are looking to recruit experienced Band 5 Adult Nurses to work in our growing team. Candidates would ideally have at least 6 months experience in a critical care setting. The Royal Free Emergency Department sees around 32,000 adult patients per year. Within the department we have a dedicated area along with a dedicated resus space. The Urgent Care centre within the ED has ENPs working with GPs to deliver an efficient and responsive service. We are committed to developing and supporting a modern career framework for our nurses in the Emergency Department and you will be supported through every step of your Emergency career by our Clinical Practice Education and senior team. Through in-house training and external courses you will be able to learn many ED specific skills.

Main Duties of the Job

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised patient care through appropriate frameworks, including safe effective arrangements for discharge, underpinned by trust values.
Assist members of the team in the co-ordination of clinical activities.
Use clinical standards to participate in the process of monitoring the quality of the care delivered.
Act to ensure that nursing practice is the highest quality in line with trust and CQC standards.
Supply and/or administer medication safely in line with Trust medicine policy.
Assess and support patients with adherence and understanding of their medication, advise on health promotion and illness prevention.
Demonstrate knowledge and skills in patient and family education.
Assist with the evaluation of care and initiate any action required, for example liaising with the multi-disciplinary team as appropriate.
Review the effectiveness of the nursing care provided and initiate any action that may be required.
Undertake and reasonable and relevant clinical or non clinical functions appropriate to the banding.
Recognise and act on situations that may be detrimental to the health and well being of the individual.
Co-ordinate and support other members of the team.
Investigate and report accidents, incidents and losses and provide initial support for the member of staff or patient involved, in line with trust policy.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree / Diploma
  • Registered Nurse on the NMC register. Holds appropriate level for the area of speciality.
  • Evidence of recent and ongoing professional development
  • Post registration experience working in an acute hospital setting
  • Proven clinical experience in relevant area
  • Experience working with acutely ill patients
  • Evidence of teaching and assessing
  • Ability to utilise pre-registration experience to demonstrate an understanding of the relevant settings.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Mentorship/Teaching/assessing course
  • Post qualification in relevant speciality
  • General management skills
