Are you looking for a new and exciting position to support patient pathways and clinical excellence?

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and forward-thinking Specialist Dental Nurse to join the Birmingham Community Dental Nursing team. We are a multi-disciplinary team that carries out a variety of different dental treatments under local anaesthetic, conscious sedation and general anaesthesia.

We are looking to recruit for the post below:

Band 5 Paediatric Specialist Dental Nurse

30.0 hours / 0.8 WTE – for 12 months.

Working days to be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

The post-holder must hold a Dental Sedation Certificate (IHS), be up to date with sedation training and be able to supply a copy of their CPD log relating to their sedation specialism.

The post-holder must be flexible as travel to other sites/locations within the division may be required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the clinical management of the dental specialty and ensure the provision of a high standard of patient care and that all Trust policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Deliver high‑quality clinical nursing support for specialties across Dental Services Division clinical sites to respond to the complex needs of patients that meet the specialty criteria.
  • Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service and manage patients with complex dental, social and medical needs.
  • Stock control/rotation and the ordering of dental consumables as required from appropriate suppliers.
  • Prepare and maintain specialised dental equipment and dispose of clinical waste including bodily fluids.
  • Support recording of patient pre‑operative assessments (e.g., height, weight and blood pressure).
  • Carry out any other duties relevant to this role specified by the Dental Nurse Manager and/or Dental Nurse Tutor(s).
  • Provide clinical nursing support for radiography within the department to support the clinical patient pathway.
  • Identify relevant staff and students who require additional training within the specialty and elevate this to the appropriate level.
  • Support the School of Dental Nursing, University of Birmingham, School of Hygiene and Therapy and relevant Heads of Service to provide team training for all disciplines.
  • Adhere to procedures to support and maintain national targets of compliance.
  • Implement agreed local Divisional and Trust policies.
  • Implement outcomes in respect of Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement relating to the specialty.
