Job summary

A secure training centre in Milton Keynes is seeking a healthcare professional to manage medication, assess patients, and collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will have an NMC pin and experience in a healthcare or custodial setting, especially with young people. This role involves critical duties ensuring proper healthcare delivery in a secure environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience of working in a healthcare environment, such as hospital, custody, community setting, clinics, etc.
  • Knowledge of current professional issues.

Responsibilities

  • Complete medication rounds in the units and dispense controlled medication.
  • Attend emergency response situations, including life-threatening emergencies.
  • Triage and assess patients during admission and treatment.
  • Management and care of minor illness and injuries.
  • Be the named lead nurse for an area of healthcare.
  • Ensure effective pre-release care planning.

Oakhillsecure training centre is operated by G4S Care and Justice Services. The centreprovides accommodation across three blocks for up to 80 children (male andfemale) aged 12 to 17 years who are serving a custodial sentence or who areremanded to custody by the courts. Children are not permitted to leave thecentre and they have all their healthcare, educational and religious needs metthe centre

Summary and description

Thoughdaily duties remain the same with additional ones depending on the needs of thedepartment with each days priorities agreed with the Head of Healthcare,Primary Care Lead and Mental Health Lead. Healthcare delivered should beevidenced based, person-centred, and non-judgemental. In accordance with the NMC code, youshall exchange knowledge, abilities, and experience to foster an open, learningatmosphere and motivate team members to pursue further professional growth. The successful candidatewill collaborate closely with other MDT members in line with DRPA and G4Spolicies and procedures. The shift patterns consist of: Earlys (7:30am3:30pm) and lates (1:30pm 9:30pm).

Main duties of the job
  • Completemedication rounds in the units and dispense controlled medication withinhealthcare building
  • Attendemergency response situations, these include restraints (observation only) andor life-threatening emergencies and complete post incident are and paperwork
  • Triageand assess patients during admission, treatment run
  • Referchildren to other healthcare professionals, chase any relevant plans made byMedics
  • Managementand care of minor illness and injuries
  • Bethe named lead nurse for an area of healthcare
  • To play a key role in the important 'Early Days in Custody' ofprisoners, working closely with other departments to ensure that all risks areassessed and managed.
  • To ensure effective pre-release care planning.
  • To undertake comprehensive assessments alone or with colleaguesand feedback to the Multi-disciplinary Team, ensuring that planned care isindividual and appropriate to the needs of the patient

  • Previous employment in custodial setting
  • Experience working with young people, preferably within secure or custodial settings
  • A minimum of 1 year post-registration clinical experience
