About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a compassionate and motivated Band 5 Pre-Operative Nurse to join the Pre-Operative Department in Gorleston-on-Sea. This ongoing locum role offers the flexibility of part-time or full-time hours and a competitive hourly rate of £25.00, making it ideal for nurses looking to enhance their experience in pre-operative assessment while maintaining a balanced lifestyle.

You will play a key role in preparing patients for surgery, ensuring their safety, comfort, and confidence throughout the pre-operative process, all within a supportive and dynamic multidisciplinary team environment.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments for elective surgical patients, ensuring all health and safety aspects are addressed.

Record accurate and detailed medical, surgical, and social histories to identify any risk factors or care needs.

Perform essential clinical observations, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation, height, and weight.

Carry out ECGs, phlebotomy, and diagnostic tests as required for surgical preparation.

Identify patients requiring further investigation or anaesthetic review, ensuring timely referrals.

Provide patient education on pre- and post-operative care, including fasting and medication guidance.

Maintain accurate and compliant documentation in line with NMC and Trust standards.

Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, safe, and effective care.

Uphold strict standards of infection control, confidentiality, and safeguarding.

Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.

Registered Nurse with NMC registration.

Experience in pre-operative assessment or surgical nursing.

Strong clinical, organisational, and communication skills.

Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
