Job summary

HCRG Care Group is seeking an experienced Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our Children’s Community Health Team. You will conduct School Based Assessments, develop tailored intervention plans and work within a multidisciplinary team to enable independence for children and families.

You will be based at one of our Surrey-wide office hubs with hybrid working, supporting children with developmental and performance challenges. A valid driving licence is required to travel between sites.

Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy (HCPC registered)
  • HCPC registration required
  • Knowledge of ASD strategies/interventions (e.g. PECS, SCERTS, ADOS)
  • Post-graduate training or experience in child development and neurodevelopmental conditions
  • Experience working with children in paediatric settings
  • Confident using a range of assessments and treatment approaches
  • Must be a car driver

Responsibilities

  • Carry out high-quality School Based Assessments as part of an MDT for children and young people
  • Assess and provide tailored advice and interventions for children with diverse needs
  • Develop and implement individualised treatment plans with families and carers
  • Recommend and support use of specialist equipment for home and school settings
  • Liaise with health, education, social care and voluntary sector professionals to ensure comprehensive care
  • Communicate sensitively with children and families, adapting to needs and circumstances
  • Contribute to team performance targets and participate in supervision and training
  • Prioritise treatment goals for complex needs or terminal illnesses, ensuring appropriate discharge planning

As a Band 5 Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in a multidisciplinary team, supporting children with a range of developmental and performance challenges. Youll work in partnership with families, carers, and other professionals to enable self‑management, independence, and well‑being in childrens daily lives. You will be based at one of our Surrey‑wide office hubs, with the flexibility of hybrid working to support your professional and personal needs. The successful applicant will need to be a car driver.

Main Responsibilities
  • Carrying out high‑quality School Based Assessments, as part of a Multi‑Disciplinary Team (MDT) for children and young people
  • Assess and provide tailored advice and interventions for children with diverse needs
  • Develop and implement individualised treatment plans in collaboration with families and carers
  • Recommend and support the use of specialist equipment for home and school settings
  • Liaise with professionals across health, education, social care, and voluntary sectors to ensure comprehensive care
  • Provide sensitive and effective communication with children and their families, adapting to their needs and circumstances
  • Contribute to team performance targets and participate in supervision, training, and team meetings
  • Assist with prioritising treatment goals for children with complex needs or terminal illnesses, ensuring appropriate discharge planning and referrals
Qualifications
  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Knowledge or training in ASD strategies/interventions (e.g. PECS, SCERTS, ADOS)
  • Evidence of post‑graduate training or equivalent experience in: + Child development + ASD, ADHD, neurodevelopmental conditions
  • Experience working with children in a similar paediatric setting
  • Confidence in using a variety of assessments and treatment approaches
  • Other requirement: the successful applicant will need to be a car driver
Desirable
  • Membership of BAOT
  • Membership of a Special Interest Group
  • Clinical Educator qualification
  • Experience delivering community‑based childrens OT services
