Key Responsibilities

Ashbrooke School is an independent specialist day school that supports children and young people with a variety of complex needs. The school provides a nurturing and inclusive setting where learners are supported through personalised approaches that respect their unique communication styles and sensory needs.

Starting this September, the successful candidate will step into a role that offers rich, hands-on experience with a diverse range of communication profiles. From supporting non-speaking learners and AAC users to working with individuals who experience developmental language differences and delays, the therapist will have the opportunity to build clinical skills in a truly inclusive environment.

The ideal candidate will bring a compassionate, learner-centred mindset—someone who celebrates and respects each young person’s unique communication style and sensory needs. A passion for special educational needs (SEN), a commitment to ongoing professional growth, and a willingness to engage in reflective practice, seek feedback, and stay current with evidence-based approaches are essential.

Clinicians within the organisation are a vital part of one of the most integrated models in SEND. Across the client’s network of specialist schools and children’s homes, they deliver exceptional levels of clinical support, both in expertise and breadth. The young people supported often present with complex needs, including developmental trauma, neurodevelopmental conditions, and special educational needs.

As part of a multi-disciplinary clinical team, the Speech & Language Therapist will support educational and residential colleagues in creating therapeutic living and learning environments. Based on clinical assessment and formulation, they will provide individualised interventions and engage directly with young people to support their development.
