This apprenticeship offers training to assess and treat anxiety and depression while working with experienced professionals. You will develop vital skills in a supportive environment and gain the opportunity to progress to qualified roles in NHS Talking Therapies. Candidates should be enthusiastic about mental health care and willing to engage in clinical training.
We’re looking for several compassionate, hardworking, curious and dedicated individuals with an interest in learning how to provide assessment and treatment or anxiety and depression disorders, and who share our Trust values of Togetherness, Responsibility, Excellence and Caring.
This is a rare opportunity to train to become a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) through the apprenticeship route, paid at full time AfC Band 4 (training fees funded by apprenticeship fund and NHS).
In return we’ll welcome you into our team and provide a supportive and structured working environment, and all the tools and experiences you’ll need to successfully complete this training course and become an accredited NHS Talking Therapies Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner. Following completing your training you will be eligible to apply for qualified PWP roles nationally, paid at Band 5 AFC.
As part of this position you will be enrolled on an Apprentice PWP training course at the University of Exeter. This is a full time opportunity only – 2 days training will be provided remotely and also face-to-face at a central London location, and 3 days placement at Hammersmith and Fulham Talking Therapies (please note that no travel to Exeter will be required).
More information on the course requirements and structure, as well as application and interview tips, can be found here: https://www.exeter.ac.uk/study/degreeapprenticeships/programmes/certificateinpsychologicalwellbeingpractice/
As a Trainee PWP you will work to develop a variety of skills including how to conduct an initial assessment, how to assess and manage risk concerns, and how to deliver low intensity cognitive behavioural interventions to clients via guided self‑help therapy.
This work will be conducted face-to-face, by phone and video. You’ll manage your own caseload of clients involving clinical and administrative duties including keeping clinical records of screening referrals using our service protocols. There will be assignments to complete as part of the apprenticeship to advance your training journey. You’ll engage in clinical and reflective supervision with an experienced PWP and you’ll work with a ‘buddy’, who is a qualified PWP, to apply learning into practice and deliver evidence-based care.
After qualifying from the PWP training course you would be able to apply for a Band 5 qualified PWP roles at any other Talking Therapies service. From there you have the potential to progress to more senior band 6, 7 or 8a PWP roles, or to train as a CBT therapist to further your clinical career.
