Barnet Hospital

37.5 Hours per week (7.5‑hour shifts, Monday to Friday – you may be required to work some weekends/Bank Holiday – working within a rota).

We are looking for someone to work as a ward administrator, within a busy clinical area at Barnet Hospital. You would be responsible for providing a front‑line reception service to the ward by delivering a high standard of customer care to a wide range of client groups including the ward’s multi‑disciplinary team, patients, relatives and their carers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect, verify, and record a high standard of patient demographic and treatment data.
  • Ensure all patient admissions, discharges, and attendances are recorded accurately.
  • Provide a front‑of‑house reception service for patients or relatives arriving on the ward/unit, welcoming all visitors and directing as appropriate.
  • Answer telephones, keep bed boards up to date, arrange transport bookings, and provide weekly & monthly ward activity figures.
  • Provide confidential and high standard general administrative support to the ward/unit.
  • Sort out incoming/outgoing post and distribute or act as necessary, and perform other ward administrative responsibilities.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
  • Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values.
  • Educated to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience.
  • Previous work experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience of working in a public/patient facing role.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use initiative and problem‑solve in a busy clinical environment.
  • Typing and data entry skills.
  • Good level of computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel and databases.
  • Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the service.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Time management and organisational skills.
  • Sympathetic attitude towards patients and relatives who may be extremely distressed or anxious.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to people at all levels.
  • The ability to manage conflict and identify where escalation to senior staff is necessary.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience of working with Cerner, or similar electronic Patient Administration Systems.
