Job description
Job Overview

We are delighted to offer a position within our Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team for an enthusiastic and motivated band 3 Speech and Language Therapy Assistant. The role will focus on carrying out programmes for adults who have acquired communication and/or eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties, as devised by Speech and Language Therapists. The base for this post can either be Newtown or Brecon.

You will work within a small, friendly adult team in the North and/or South of Powys, receiving regular clinical supervision, CPD opportunities and an appraisal system. We are committed to regularly reviewing our service delivery and to fostering a supportive, innovative and forward‑thinking environment.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver programmes of therapeutic activities for individuals or groups of patients.
  • Deliver interventions to support patients in optimising their communication, eating, drinking and swallowing skills.
  • Work with patients, carers and colleagues to implement therapy goals.
  • Assist with specified duties within the Speech and Language Therapy Department.
  • Work across the locality in a variety of settings.
  • Support the departmental training delivery plan.
  • Work independently under the guidance of qualified Speech and Language Therapy staff and actively participate in your own professional development.
Qualifications
  • Evidence of practical training in Health or Social Care or Level 3 education.
  • Achieved or working towards an NVQ in Health and Social Care or another relevant qualification.
  • Good standard of education – GCSE English.
Experience
  • Experience in a Health or Social Care setting.
Skills
  • Work well in a team and independently.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • IT literacy, including keyboard skills.
  • Present yourself professionally with a clear communication style.
  • Prioritise tasks and work to deadlines.
Desirable
  • Some ability to speak, read and/or write Welsh, or an eagerness to learn.
  • Working knowledge of IT systems such as Word, Excel, Publisher and devices such as iPads.
  • Demonstrate PTHB values.
  • Ability to empathise.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptable and willing to work flexibly to meet service needs.
  • Ability to travel within the geographical area.
