Job description

St Bartholomew's Hospital (Barts) are searching for an experienced and passionate Band 3 Rehabilitation Support Worker to join their highly skilled team at the Royal London Hospital.

Our group of hospitals provide a huge range of clinical services to people in east London and beyond.

We operate from four major hospital sites (The Royal London, St Bartholomew’s, Whipps Cross and Newham) and a number of community locations, including Mile End hospital. Around 2.5 million people living in east London look to our services to provide them with the healthcare they need.

Job purpose

To assist members of the Stroke Therapies Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) in providing high quality care to patients on the Tower Hamlets stroke pathway by:

  • Carrying out treatment plans developed by Physiotherapists (PT), Occupational Therapists (OT) and Speech and Language Therapists (SLT), and by progressing those treatment plans within agreed frameworks.
  • Supporting the safe and effective care of patients by maintaining levels of stock, and the cleanliness and safety of equipment, as well as carrying out some administrative duties e.g. completing patient records, referrals, and making resources.
  • Providing flexible, patient-centered intervention to support the rehabilitation of Stroke patients in the community setting, including their own homes, out-patient appointments and other local community settings.
Requirements
  • Good standard of general education, to G.C.S.E. level or equivalent.
  • Evidence of recent relevant and appropriate training and CPD.
  • Experience of working with people.
  • Knowledge / experience of working in healthcare or similar setting.
  • Evidence of literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions accurately and learn new skills quickly.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and manage own caseload.
  • Willing to work in community and hospital settings.
  • Effective spoken communication in English.
  • Ability to communicate information (verbal, non verbal and written) in an accurate, clear and logical manner.
  • Ability to understand and work within the Trust’s policies and guidelines.
  • Ability to work at moderate to intense physical effort throughout the day.
  • Ability to cope working in a stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients and carers.
  • Able to use initiative.
