Medical Secretary – Respiratory Medicine

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Medical Secretary in Respiratory Medicine at Good Hope Hospital.

Overview

The post holder will be a key member of the team and is expected to provide an empathic and sensitive point of contact for patients/relatives and carers, have a confident and calm manner with good communication skills and appropriately manage confidential, complex and sensitive information under the direction of the Medical Secretary Supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Manage consultants and ILD nurses, book appointments, manage diaries.
  • Audio typing of clinic letters and support colleagues during annual leave and sickness.
  • Touch type from audio and/or copy type from written documentation, prepare letters, emails, reports and minutes of meetings.
  • Exercise initiative and judgement when dealing with enquiries and deal with telephone enquiries as appropriate.
  • Maintain diaries and input/look up data on Trust IT systems in accordance with Trust policy.
  • Open post daily, book, reschedule and cancel appointments for patients and cancel clinic as necessary on instruction of the clinician.
