Job description

Job Overview

We are seeking highly motivated Health Care Assistants to join our experienced and friendly team on Sycamore Ward.

Sycamore Ward is located within Hillview Lodge, on the grounds of The Royal United Hospital. Currently, Sycamore is piloting a 15-bed all-female ward, which will soon return to a mixed-gender ward.

We take pride in involving service users and carers in the development of our services.

If you are positive, proactive, capable of making important decisions under pressure, and a strong team player with a service-user-centred approach, you could be a great addition to the Sycamore team.

Main Duties

  • Work as part of a care team to deliver evidence-based interventions to service users with mental health issues.
  • Develop and practice therapeutic care skills alongside registered clinicians, contributing to the psychological, emotional, and social wellbeing of service users.
  • Ensure care provided to service users and their relatives prioritizes safety, effectiveness, partnership, and hope.
  • Support and promote core care values by assisting junior, temporary, and newly-appointed Healthcare Support Workers.
  • Participate in our active weekly community meetings with service users, carers, volunteers, and staff to share good news and collaborate on making the ward a safe and welcoming environment.

The ward has a clear mission statement developed by the multidisciplinary team. Staff are actively involved in the safe wards project and initiatives to reduce restrictive practices. We are currently running a Quality Improvement (QI) project on sexual safety. The team maintains a positive reporting culture and values training opportunities such as trauma-informed care. Staff also benefit from a vibrant social support network.
