Job summary

Qualifications

Our Health Care Assistants play a vital role within our team. They assist with patient flow by providing ophthalmic assessments, carrying out investigative and diagnostic procedures, and chaperoning patients during consultations. The role supports a high‑volume Ophthalmic team, including Outpatients, A&E and Pre‑op Assessment Service.

Responsibilities
  • Provide ophthalmic patient assessments and visual acuity testing.
  • Measure intra‑ocular pressure and instill a variety of eyedrops, understanding their pharmaceutical value.
  • Chaperone patients during clinical consultations and maintain a safe environment.
  • Assist with patient flow across multiple ophthalmic departments.
  • Support a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating empathy and excellent communication skills.
  • Contribute to safe patient care and high standards of service delivery.
  • Adapt to a fast‑paced working environment with flexible hours across Band 3 schedules.
  • Demonstrate initiative and reliability in a demanding hospital setting.
Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 ability and demonstrable experience in a hospital setting at NVQ Level 2.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues.
