Job description
Overview

We are seeking highly motivated and conscientious individuals to join us as receptionists in both Queen's Hospital & King George Hospital Emergency Departments. These positions are available on contracts of 37.5, 30, 22.5 and 15 hours per week. The role requires a front‑of‑house reception service, clerical duties and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide efficient and effective front‑of‑house reception service to patients, relatives and colleagues.
  • Ensure all reception practices, uniform policy, staff ID and badge compliance.
  • Register patients into the emergency departments, access and record patient details using NHS systems.
  • Book follow‑up appointments and arrange transport for patients being discharged or transferred.
  • Maintain accurate records and update patient details.
  • Deliver excellent customer service, flexibility, adaptability, teamwork and independent work capability.
Working Hours and Shift Patterns

The role requires cross‑site work at both Queen's & King George Hospital on an 8‑week rolling rota covering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including public holidays.

Shift patterns (all staff must cover all patterns):

  • 07:00 – 15:00
  • 15:00 – 20:00 (Queen's Hospital only)
  • 15:00 – 23:00
  • 23:00 – 07:00
Qualifications and Experience
  • Suitable qualification or equivalent experience in a reception or customer‑service role.
  • Experience dealing with the general public, including difficult or distressed patients and relatives.
  • Ability to use NHS systems and computer literacy.
  • Excellent communication skills and empathy.
  • Team player who can work independently.
