Position Overview

This role is based in the Cancer Performance Team and will provide full training on managing 2‑week wait referrals, tracking patients through their tests and appointments, and supporting the team in determining whether patients have cancer. The position is an administrative role in a busy service and is ideal for individuals who enjoy a busy schedule and delivering a high level of customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

Apprenticeship Programme

Apprenticeships offer an opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification while on the job. You will undertake a 22‑month development programme in Business Administration within the Community Therapies Services, through work‑based learning and regular training sessions. Successfully completing the programme will lead to an Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 qualification.

Contract & Eligibility

This is a fixed‑term contract with the possibility of becoming permanent after successful completion of the qualification. Applicants who already hold a relevant qualification in Business Administration or Business Management at this level or higher are not eligible to apply.

Responsibilities
  • Book 2‑week wait oncology referrals and ensure they are scheduled within cancer targets.
  • Map and follow up cancer pathways, coordinating with clinicians and admin staff.
  • Collaborate closely with the Cancer Performance Manager and Service Managers to collect and manage national cancer minimum data sets for all patients.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records, prioritise urgent work, and manage deadlines under unpredictable work patterns.
  • Provide a comprehensive, professional, and effective secretarial service, working independently and maintaining a calm, friendly, and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrate initiative, mature judgement, and the ability to work well under pressure and within a team.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Previous experience of office/admin duties, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working within a healthcare setting, with systems such as Careflow and Somerset.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to cope well under pressure and work independently while maintaining confidentiality.
  • References are required from current and previous employers, including address, telephone number, and work e‑mail of each line manager.
