Job summary

Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust is seeking a Ward Housekeeper to support nursing staff by maintaining a clean, safe environment and assisting with meal service. The role covers all ward areas, ensuring standards of cleanliness and infection control are met.

You will work flexibly across wards, adhere to NHS cleanliness specifications, COSHH and manual handling procedures, and manage responsibilities in a busy, sometimes challenging environment while prioritising patient

• Experience in cleaning in healthcare environments.
• Ability to follow NHS cleanliness standards and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning in all ward and department areas to NHS standards, including bedrooms, communal areas, sanitary areas, clinics, kitchens and offices.
• Replenish stocks of disposable items (e.g., paper towels, soap).
• Work in a controlled and systematic way, with potential contact with distressed patients, while following health and safety rules such as COSHH and manual handling.

Housekeepers support the nursing staff to provide an appropriate environment for patient care. Duties will include general cleaning of all Ward/Departmental areas and the preparation and presentation and service of patient meals.

Housekeepers will be expected to demonstrate a flexible attitude to their work to meet the needs of the Ward and the Patients.

Housekeepers are expected to work in a controlled and systematic way in an environment where there may be constant distractions and contact with service users displaying disturbed and challenging behaviour on a frequent basis.

Main duties of the job

HOUSEKEEPING

Cleaning in all areas to the agreed NHS specification (including but not limited to National Standards of Cleanliness, CQC outcomes and PLACE and in line with local schedules. Areas will include but not be limited to service user bedrooms, communal areas, sanitary areas, clinic rooms, kitchens, offices, corridors. To replenish stocks of disposable items, i.e.: paper hand towels, soap. Working in accordance with all relevant Health and safety procedures at all times e.g. COSHH, Manual Handling
