Overview

As a Bank Switchboard Operator you will provide a comprehensive, high quality switchboard service to patients, staff and members of the public on behalf of the Trust. Communication skills are essential as the team are usually the first point of contact for most callers. Switchboard is a very busy environment dealing with all types of calls to the Trust and often working alone.

Bank staffing

The term 'Bank' refers to our pool of bank employees who are our temporary staffing solution, covering annual leave and sickness across our sites. Applicants are asked to bring their photo ID and right to work including proof of address to their interviews. In cases where a high volume of applications are received, the closing date may be brought forward. Therefore applicants are advised to submit their completed application form as early as possible.

All roles provide a range of duties across our Trust sites and support services to ensure a safe, efficient and effective service to all patients, staff and visitors.

Responsibilities
  • Observe and respond to monitors/alarms within an agreed scope of responsibility and carry out stringent documented procedures in the event of an emergency situation.
  • Provide a polite and courteous telephone manner when receiving and re-directing calls.
  • Efficiently process telephone calls received via the switchboard consoles and other extensions within the switchboard area.
  • Provide a welcoming service for routine inquiries and assistance to staff users and the general public, ensuring appropriate assistance is provided.
  • Proficiently operate the computer-based switchboard.
  • Make decisions and deal with emergency calls calmly and efficiently in a high-level, fast-moving environment (e.g., cardiac arrest calls, trauma calls, fire calls, major incidents, bomb threats, gas alarms and lift entrapments).
  • Be enthusiastic and adaptable within the Switchboard and its varied roles.
