Summary and purpose of position

As a Shift Manager, you will report directly into the Operations Manager and be expected to support the Operations Manager in ensuring an effective warehouse operation is established and maintained in order to meet all key performance indicators and exceed customer expectations.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Motivate and manage a team of Team Leaders and MTOs to meet and exceed performance objectives
  • Effectively manage resources to achieve and report on KPI's
  • Create and review performance reports, making recommendations for improvements
  • Ensure a proactive approach to Health & Safety using reporting and ensuring team members comply with Health & Safety policies
  • Where necessary, support with disciplinary and grievance meetings ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures
  • Ensure the following areas are performed efficiently and achieve set KPIs' goods in, putaway, pick, goods out and stock integrity
  • Ensure all product is handled correctly to avoid damages
  • Ensure all staff are fully trained in line with Internal Training requirements
  • Monitor performance, timekeeping, attendance, overtime and sickness levels of individual colleagues and action as per procedures
  • Be committed to continuous improvement in line with operational needs, constantly striving for increased efficiency, productivity and growth
  • Ensure two-way communication with team members is maintained on all matters relating to their involvement in company business
  • Record all relevant data during briefings for follow up processes
  • Provide a responsive and professional service to customers
  • Carry out 1:1s and Personal Development Reviews to agreed schedule
  • Monitor and action all customer IT reports
  • Flexibility to react to unexpected situations and provide proactive solutions
  • Strive to support and learn all areas of the business
  • Maintain stock accuracy/integrity to contractual level
  • Attend customer meetings to fully understand their business and support the wider operation
  • Manage and authorise Team Leader leave ensuring operational integrity
  • Support with customer non conformance investigations and reporting back as applicable
  • Deputise for the Operations Manager and other Shift Managers as required

Person Specification
  • Previous experience managing a team in warehouse environment
  • Ability to provide and understand the need for a high customer service
  • Proactive, flexible, can-do attitude to resolve issues and challenges
  • Able to demonstrate attention to detail and an accurate and precise way of working
  • PC literate and numerate with good communication skills, with a working knowledge of MS Office suite
  • Demonstrate good team motivation and communication skills
  • Flexibility regarding shift patterns
  • Ability to suggest methods of improvement to be actively involved in continuous improvement implementation
  • Attention to detail to assume quality checking and quality control
  • Compliant with manual handling procedures
