Job summary

Ocho is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join a Belfast-based engineering team. You will design, build and maintain cloud-native backend services, taking features from concept to production and ensuring performance and reliability at scale.

You'll work in a collaborative, ownership-driven environment with CI/CD and microservices, using Go or Java and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure). Belfast-based with hybrid work (3 days in office).

Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Solid commercial experience in backend software engineering.
  • Strong programming skills in Go or Java.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
  • Knowledge of distributed systems, databases and messaging systems.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and microservices architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain backend services in a cloud environment.
  • Take full ownership of features from concept through to production.
  • Optimise application performance and system reliability.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and system design discussions.
  • Support capacity planning and ongoing service scalability.
  • Participate in peer code reviews and technical knowledge-sharing.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, DevOps and product teams.

The team builds and operates large-scale, cloud-native backend systems that help organisations secure their cloud infrastructure in real time, working with modern tooling across distributed environments. The Role

As a Backend Software Engineer, you'll be embedded in a collaborative engineering team focused on building reliable, scalable services. You'll have direct influence on the quality and resilience of systems that operate at scale, and your contributions to architecture, performance and code quality will shape the platform's long-term direction. Working closely across engineering and product teams, you'll help ensure technical decisions align with broader business goals, with your voice genuinely heard in the room where those decisions are made.
