Job summary

Cleo is hiring Backend Engineers to join cross-functional squads and build features that improve users' financial health. You will work on our Ruby on Rails monolith, develop data models, APIs, and business logic services, and collaborate with product, design and analytics to ship impactful changes.

You will participate in agile processes, deliver with tests and feature flags, and mentor teammates to grow as engineers while contributing to broader engineering improvements.

Qualifications

• Solid experience with Ruby on Rails and building data models, APIs and business logic services in a production monolith.
• Comfortable delivering with agile methodologies and practices like automated testing, observability, A/B testing and feature flags.
• Collaborative approach with product, design and analytics partners, and willingness to shape work beyond technical bits.
• Experience mentoring colleagues and supporting their growth as engineers.

Meet the Team

Here at Cleo, we have ~200 Engineers organised into Pillars. Our stack spans a Ruby on Rails monolith, a single React Native (TypeScript) app frontend, Python for machine learning services, and PostgreSQL, all hosted on AWS and shipped through Kubernetes - backend goes out multiple times a week, app releases to Google and Apple at least weekly. To thrive here, our engineers proactively use our Engineering Principles to guide daily decisions, take ownership of problems beyond their own squad to drive broader impact, and actively drive their own learning, development and growth.

About the Role

We're hiring Backend Engineers to join one of our cross-functional product squads - working closely with other engineers, designers, analysts, and other disciplines to build features that improve our users' financial health.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

• Work on our Ruby on Rails monolith, building data models, APIs, and business logic services

• Collaborate with peers across your squad and pillar, providing technical insight into upcoming work and helping pull the team together to ship it

• Deliver your work using agile methodologies and tools like tests, observability, A/B tests, and feature flags

• Mentor colleagues to help them grow as engineers, and actively support their development

• Contribute to cross-cutting concerns that raise the bar across engineering

• Shape your squad's work beyond the technical - take part in product ideation, user research, design reviews, and retrospectives
