Job summary

Wheely is seeking a senior backend engineer to craft high-quality Go code, build new microservices, and help migrate legacy systems. You will work with product managers, designers, and data scientists to deliver robust, scalable services that remain responsive under heavy load.

This office-based role in West London offers a four-day week with flexible start/finish times and one remote day. Salary starts at £120,000 plus stock options, private medical/dental insurance, life and critical illness

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience building scalable backend services.
• Proficient in Go; other languages accepted.
• Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with message brokers: RabbitMQ or Kafka.
• Competent in English (B2+) or higher.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality, performant backend services in Go.
• Create new microservices and migrate away from legacy systems.
• Collaborate with product, design, and data science teams.
• Ensure system latency and reliability under load.

Write high-quality, performant code primarily in Go. Implement new microservices while helping us responsibly manage and migrate away from legacy services. Work closely with product managers, designers, and data scientists to turn abstract requirements into concrete technical designs. Ensure our systems stay responsive under heavy load, optimising for both latency and reliability.

Требования

6+ years of experience building and maintaining scalable backend services. We use Go. If you know it, great. If not, we'll interview you in your strongest language (Python, C++, Ruby, etc.). We hire for engineering fundamentals, not syntax. In-depth knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis) and experience with message brokers like RabbitMQ or Kafka. Upper-Intermediate (B2) English proficiency or higher. You should be comfortable debating technical trade-offs with your peers.
