Job summary

McGregor Boyall is seeking an experienced Backend Engineer for a contract role based in the UK. You will design and optimise scalable backend services driving an enterprise integration and orchestration platform.

You will work across Java, Python or Node.js, REST APIs, Kafka and Kubernetes, building secure microservices, API Gateways and cloud-native solutions while embracing CI/CD and observability practices.

Qualifications

• Backend development experience for enterprise-scale, distributed platforms.
• Experience with Java, Python or Node.js and REST APIs.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise scalable backend services for enterprise integration.
• Build secure and scalable REST APIs for enterprise apps and AI services.
• Develop microservices-based architectures to support orchestration and workflow automation.
• Implement event-driven solutions using Kafka or Pub/Sub.
• Develop enterprise authentication and authorisation solutions (OAuth, SAML, SSO).
• Build/manage integrations through API Gateways with a focus on security and performance.
• Develop and deploy cloud-native apps using containers and cloud technologies.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for testing, deployment and release management.
• Establish observability, monitoring, logging and alerting capabilities.
• Contribute to design reviews and engineering standards.
• Collaborate with AI Engineers, Data Scientists and Security teams.
