Imperial College AI, and Robotics Spinout is seeking a Backend Engineer to join a small, highly technical team building software at the intersection of advanced computing and industrial technology. You will own core infrastructure, focusing on high-volume data ingestion, processing and storage in C++ and Python integrations.

The role offers ownership from day one, with opportunities to influence architecture and technical direction within a venture-backed startup environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of commercial C++ development experience, ideally C++17 or later.
• Strong fundamentals in concurrency, multithreading, memory management and performance optimisation.
• Experience building software that handles large datasets or high-throughput data streams.
• A degree in computer science, engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• A pragmatic, hands-on approach and the ability to deliver in a fast-moving environment.
• Existing right to work in the UK.

Responsabilités

• Core systems development: Build high-performance C++ libraries for data processing and storage.

The Role

• As a Backend Engineer, you’ll build and optimise the core systems responsible for ingesting, processing and storing high-volume data.
• You’ll work across performance-critical C++ systems, Python integration and real-time data pipelines, helping deliver reliable software into demanding customer environments.
• Expect complex engineering challenges, significant ownership and the opportunity to influence architecture and technical direction from day one.

What We’re Looking For

Someone who enjoys solving difficult systems problems and building software that performs reliably outside a development environment.

• Signal processing, computer vision or sensor-driven applications.
• Industrial, scientific or other performance-critical software.
• Experience in an early-stage company or a rapidly evolving engineering team.
