Job summary

Octopus Electroverse is seeking a backend engineer to join one of our squads, working with product managers and engineers to build robust services that scale globally. You will influence backend architecture and implement features that power our public EV charging platform.

You will contribute to observability, data analysis, and defensive programming while collaborating across the organisation to deliver market-leading solutions.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of commercial Python experience.

About Octopus Electroverse

We’re making electric vehicle public charging simple, by building the giant, virtual charging platform of the future. In just five years, Octopus Electroverse has become Europe’s largest eMobility charging network, with over 1.4 million connected electric vehicle chargers globally across 79 countries. Our customer ecosystem spans web, iOS, Android, CarPlay, Android Auto & Automotive OS. But this is just the start: we’re busy expanding internationally, growing our Charge Point Operator and OEM partners, and scaling our Octopus Fleet B2B proposition - all in the name of making public EV charging super simple for our customers. Electroverse is a cross-functional team of product, engineering, commercial, operations and marketing, all sharing a passion for shifting the industry towards EVs.

About the Job

You’ll join as a backend engineer in one of our primary squads. Working alongside the productmanager and engineers in your squad, you will help develop the critical services that serve our endusers. You’ll have the chance to work on highly impactful projects, fueling product innovation in afast-moving industry and influencing how the backend can deliver robust and scalable functionality.

What you'll do

• Enable us to build quickly but robustly, using best practices in observability, data analysis anddefensive programming, allowing us to safely scale our products and CPO integrationsglobally.
• Work with cross-functional stakeholders to break down complex problems, understandfeasibility, and propose creative technical solutions that deliver a market-leading platform.

What we're looking for

• The passion to create something amazing in the climate space, and the mindset to learn andgrow in a rapidly scaling business.
• 2+ years commercial experience with Python.
• Good communication skills, with an ability to consider product vision and propose creativetechnical solutions within a team.
• An ability to write robust and fault-tolerant software.
• Proficient understanding of Git and CI/CD.
• Good understanding of Databases and data architecture.
• Experience with API development (REST, GraphQL, etc)

Nice to have

• Experience in using web frameworks (Django).
• Experience working on B2B product features
• Experience working with OCPI
• Experience integrating third-party API solutions
