Job summary

Xe.com is hiring a mid-level back-end engineer to own problems end-to-end, from API design to production reliability. You’ll build services that move money, manage currencies, and support onboarding, KYC/KYB, and settlement. You’ll work with product, compliance, and operations in a small, fast-moving team, using AI tools daily.

You’ll contribute to the platform rewrite in a modern stack, partnering with architects and team leads on design decisions and production readiness.

Qualifications

• 3 to 6 years building production backend services, end-to-end.
• Strong backend proficiency in C# / .NET preferred; other OOP languages welcome.
• SQL and relational database fundamentals.
• Writing and maintaining tests.
• Daily use of agentic coding tools across the SDLC.
• Production experience with AWS, including SQS, DynamoDB, S3, ECS and Lambda.
• Strong system design fundamentals, distributed systems and async/event-driven patterns.
• Strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Build backend services to move money and manage multi-currency balances, covering onboarding, KYC/KYB, payment initiation, FX, and settlement.
• Partner with product, compliance, and operations from problem framing through launch.
• Build and operate partner integrations and settlement infrastructure your services depend on.
• Own your services in production, including reliability, observability, on-call, and incident response.

About This Role

We're hiring a mid-level back-end engineer who likes owning real problems end-to-end, from API design and data modeling through to service implementation, production reliability, and launch. You already use AI as part of how you think, build, test, and ship.

You'll write code that moves money in production, build and modernize the backend services the platform runs on, and ship new capability as Xe rebuilds its platform layer. You'll work in a small team with direct access to product, compliance, and operations, own your services in production, and partner with architects and team leads on bigger design decisions.

What You'll Do

• Build backend services that move money and manage multi-currency balances across a range of domains, including onboarding, KYC and KYB, payment initiation, FX, settlement, and other supporting services.
• Partner with product, compliance, and operations from problem framing through launch.
• Build and operate the partner integrations and settlement infrastructure your services depend on.
• Own your services in production, including reliability, observability, on-call, and incident response.
• Use agentic coding tools (Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or equivalent) daily across the SDLC, and help take parts of the platform from legacy services into the modern stack alongside architects and team leads in your domain.

What We're Looking For

Must-have

• 3 to 6 years building production backend services, end-to-end.
• Strong backend proficiency in C# / .NET preferred; other OOP languages welcome (Java, Kotlin, Go, or equivalent).
• SQL and relational database fundamentals.
• Writing and maintaining tests.
• Daily use of agentic coding tools (Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or equivalent) across the SDLC.
• Production experience with AWS, including hands-on deployment and native services such as SQS, DynamoDB, S3, ECS, and Lambda.
• Strong system design fundamentals, including distributed systems and async or event-driven patterns.
• Strong written and verbal communication.

Nice-to-have

• Experience in payments, FX, or cross-border money movement.
• Service-oriented or microservices architecture experience.
• Experience with ledgers, double-entry accounting, or other financial-data systems.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices.
• Experience with caching solutions like Memcached or Redis.
• Experience using project management and documentation tools like Jira and Confluence.
• Knowledge of API testing tools such as Postman or Bruno.
• Writing automated tests alongside development with AI tools (Claude Code or equivalent).
