The role: Safety Officer

Salary: £36,000‑£40,000

The Safety Officer supports the Deputy Safety and Security Manager in the implementation and continuous improvement of the Safety Management System (SMS) for BA Euroflyer. The role is primarily responsible for conducting safety investigations, analysing safety data, and making recommendations to enhance operational safety. The Safety Officer will work collaboratively across departments to promote a proactive safety culture and ensure regulatory compliance.

What you’ll do
  • Conduct thorough investigations into safety‑related incidents across flight operations, ground handling, engineering, and fatigue events.
  • Analyse safety data and trends from Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) and SMS reports to identify risks and recommend mitigations.
  • Ensure investigation findings are accurately documented and entered into the safety management system.
  • Support the development and delivery of safety reports to the Safety Action Group (SAG) and Safety and Compliance Review Board (SCRB).
  • Take ownership of Safety Action Groups (SAG), delivering the document package and chairing the meeting.
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of safety promotion materials.
  • Liaise with internal departments and external regulatory bodies (e.g., CAA, AAIB, DfT) to support safety initiatives and share best practices.
  • Monitor structural exceedances and coordinate with Engineering to ensure timely resolution.
  • Contribute to the development of Fatigue Risk Management processes.
  • Provide support and coaching on safety risk assessments to operational teams.
  • Participate in safety audits, working groups, and continuous improvement projects as required.

Your experience
  • Experience in conducting safety investigations and reporting.
  • Understanding of SMS principles and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven experience identifying and proposing strategies around potential key issues with regards to safety and security.
  • Experience with UK CAA approved Airline Security Programmes.
  • Experience in maintaining relationships with the regulatory authorities to ensure BAEF is perceived as a best‑practice pro‑active organisation.
  • Experience in FDM analysis and fatigue risk management.
  • Experience in coordinating and developing a Fatigue Risk Management System.
  • Sound understanding and commitment to Just Culture and Human Factors.
