A technology consulting firm in the UK is currently seeking a DevOps Engineer to enhance their infrastructure automation capabilities. The ideal candidate should have strong experience in automation practices, particularly with tools like PowerShell, Terraform, and Azure DevOps. Responsibilities include defining automation standards and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient service delivery. This role offers a dynamic work environment focused on continuous improvement and high-quality service delivery.
We are currently looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our Clients Infrastructure Engineering team. You will contribute to the teams maturing responsibilities for the development and management of their infrastructure-as-code'-focused automation services, concentrating on the use of agile tools such as Terraform, Packer, Powershell and Azure DevOps within their Nutanix (on-premise) and Azure (public cloud) hosting environments to build and maintain critical business services including the Clients growing digital services estate.
This is an opportunity to work within a small team of highly-skilled infrastructure engineering and automation specialists, bringing the benefit of your broad base of infrastructure operations knowledge and using your engineering/automation experience to help design, implement and support the modern IT services required by the Clients growth ambitions. This role requires someone who is passionate about the possibilities infrastructure automation brings, can focus on the rapid delivery of improvement but that also has the clarity of thought to ensure solutions are built to a high quality and will stand the test of time.
Defining automation standards, tooling and processes that will help continue our drive for the adoption of a broad automation-first' approach across the Clients technology teams.
Leverage industry-standard automation tooling and practices in the development of business-focused infrastructure automation solutions
Working alongside software development and testing teams to provide infrastructure automation development and support services as part of the Clients Digital Services Product Team (this will be on a rotation basis to ensure good knowledge transfer and maintain consistency of approach between Infrastructure Engineering team members)
Optimise, monitor, maintain and improve all infrastructure automation services, delivering efficient, reliable and secure services that follow industry best practice.
Contribute to the delivery of business projects involving new or updated infrastructure automation services, including working with both on-premises and cloud-based systems.
Experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams (eg developers/testers) using Agile techniques, focusing on the value stream
Strong real-world experience developing and maintaining infrastructure-as-code automation solutions using industry-standard tools (eg Packer, Terraform, Azure DevOps, CI/CD)
Excellent operational experience (5+ years) of Windows-based on-premise and cloud hosting platforms and encompassing a broad range of hands-on infrastructure/networking/server/cloud knowledge (you don't need to have an up to date CCNA or be a certified MS DevOps Engineer but you need to be comfortable managing and troubleshooting issues with vNets, VMware, release pipelines and App Services, potentially all in the same day)
Thorough understanding of the creation, modification and maintenance of scripts/modules/functions using popular Scripting languages and source control systems (eg Powershell, Git, Terraform)
Experience of the incorporation of modern security principles into the world of infrastructure management, both to on-premise and (in particular) cloud workloads/services
A strong team player who can easily switch focus between individual and collective objectives
Excellent troubleshooting & diagnostic skills, including the ability to work well under pressure and follow investigations through to their logical conclusions
Good organisational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other teams to understand technical requirements and provide guidance in relation to the build/maintenance of IT services
Clear commitment to life-long learning and the acquisition of new skills and abilities
Solid focus on quality, accuracy, reliability and integrity in everything you do
Self-starter who is not afraid to take ownership of issues that may not necessarily sit within their direct sphere of control, focusing on the experience of the requester/customer
A desire to make things better, maintain an optimistic mindset through challenging situations and always look for opportunities to improve our services and processes
We are looking for people with not only the right skills, but those who demonstrate our values in how they approach their work and colleagues.
