Job summary

ALTEN is seeking an Avionics Systems Verification & Validation Engineer in Derby. You will lead requirements definition, modeling, testing and compliance demonstrations at component, system and aircraft levels within a certification-driven environment.

The role involves cross-functional collaboration to deliver safety-critical aviation projects. The candidate should have 10+ years on Part 23/27 programs, strong SAE ARP/DO knowledge, and hands-on verification experience using ALM tools and solid

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Software Engineering or related field (or military equivalent).
  • 10+ years of Part 23/27 aircraft or rotorcraft program experience.
  • Strong knowledge of SAE ARP4754A, ARP4761, FAA DO-178C DO-160G.
  • Experience with ARP4754A-based verification and traceability audits.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and validate aircraft/system/component requirements with traceability.
  • Apply SAE ARP4754A/ARP4761 to safety assessments and certification planning.
  • Write, execute, maintain verification plans, test procedures, and reports.
  • Coordinate lab, integration and system tests across components and airframe

Job Description

Join ALTEN as an Avionics Systems Verification & Validation Engineer and play a pivotal role in the development, certification, and verification of electric aviation platforms. You’ll work at the intersection of systems engineering, safety, certification, and V&V verification, contributing to groundbreaking projects that are shaping the future of aviation.

This role offers hands‑on involvement in requirements definition, modeling, testing, and compliance demonstration at the Component, System, and Aircraft levels. Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, manage, and validate aircraft, system and component-level requirements, ensuring bidirectional traceability and alignment with regulatory and certification needs.
  • Apply SAE ARP4754A and ARP4761 processes to support safety assessments (FHA, FTA, FMEA) and certification planning under Part 23/27/33.
  • Author, execute, and maintain verification plans, procedures, and test reports, coordinating lab, integration, and system-level tests for systems like vibrations, airframe, fuselage, interiors, environmental control systems, and electric engines.
  • Perform system behavior modeling and support test automation and data analysis to ensure compliance with certification schedules.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Software Engineering, or a related field, or relevant technical military background with equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience on Part 23 or 27 aircraft or rotorcraft programs.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • SAE ARP4754A, ARP4761, FAA Order 8110.4C
    • RTCA DO-160G, DO-331, DO-178C
  • Experience with ARP4754A-based verification and requirements-based testing and traceability audits.
  • Proficiency with ALM and verification tools (Polarion, JIRA, Confluence).
  • Experience with solid modeling tools (Onshape, SolidWorks, CATIA, or equivalent).
  • Comfortable working in a cross‑functional, certification‑focused environment.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience with Part 23 Amendment 64, ASTM F3338, Part 33 certification, or electric propulsion systems
  • Familiarity with Polarion ALM, CATIA, ANSYS, Mil-HDBK-217 / Mil-HDBK-21
  • Familiarity with reliability tools (PTC Windchill, Isograph, Relyence)
  • Test and automation experience using Python or other test automation frameworks
  • Background in aerospace verification & validation
  • Prior experience in a certifying environment (Part 23, 25, 27, 29, or DO-based programs for EASA or FAA).
