Morson Edge in Yeovil is seeking an Avionics Systems Engineer for a 6-month contract, onsite three days per week. The role covers definition, design, integration, testing and in-service support for avionics and mission subsystems, with a rate of £65 per hour (Ltd) outside IR35.

Responsibilities

  • Capture requirements for Subsystems and safety and airworthiness considerations.
  • Lead detailed design and specification of Subsystems, including requirements and statements of work for vendor products or internal software.
  • Lead detailed design analysis and trade-off studies using prototyping, simulation and analysis to assess system performance.
  • Monitor internal software development / vendor engineering activities supporting Aircraft and Mission System development.
  • Present Avionic and Mission Systems at aircraft Design Reviews.
  • Plan and execute test and integration activities to support system development and qualification.
  • Produce documentation to support airworthiness clearance and qualification, including security and cyber considerations.
  • Develop flight test activities for avionic and mission subsystems.
  • Provide support to aircraft production and clearance activities.
  • Lead technology research tasks associated with avionic and mission systems.
  • Mentor apprentices and developing engineers.

Job description

Avionics Systems Engineer

Location: Yeovil, 3 days a week on site

Duration: 6 Months

Rate circa £65 ph Ltd

Outside IR35

Responsible for the definition, design, development, integration, testing, qualification and in-service engineering support for avionics and mission Subsystems. The role offers significant variety and could include, however, will include a number of the aspects outlined below:

  • Capture of requirements for Subsystems and the scheming of optimal solutions, including consideration of safety and airworthiness aspects.
  • Leading and undertaking detailed design and specification of Subsystems, including the preparation of requirements specifications and statements of work for vendor products or internal software developments.
  • Leading the execution of detailed design analysis and trade-off studies to support the evaluation of alternative solutions. Use of computer tools, prototyping, simulation and analysis techniques, where appropriate, to assess system performance.
  • Monitoring of internal software development / vendor engineering activities that support Aircraft and Mission System development.
  • Presentation of Avionic and Mission Systems aspects at aircraft Design Reviews.
  • Leading the planning and executing test and integration activities to support system development and qualification.
  • Leading the production of documentation to support airworthiness clearance and qualification of Aircraft and Mission Systems, including security and cyber considerations.
  • Leading the development of flight test activities for avionic and mission subsystems.
  • Providing support to aircraft production and clearance activities.
  • Leading and undertaking technology research tasks associated with avionic and mission systems.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to apprentices and developing engineers.

The activities will potentially encompass all Subsystem projects, from minor system modifications to the development of new systems, new approaches and new architectures.

The role is varied and could be necessitate the individual providing technical leadership with responsibility for a specific technology, a group of technologies or a small technical team discharging a broader set of objectives.

The activities are heavily dependent on specialist vendor organisations / internal software development teams and require close co-operation with Core Engineering specialists and other areas of the Company that are involved in system procurement. This may also include fostering cross-geographic relationships
