Job summary

Wigan & Leigh College is seeking a diligent Motor Vehicle Technician to support practical learning in industry-standard workshops. You will prepare equipment, vehicles and spaces, assist lecturers and ensure a safe, well-organised learning environment.

The role emphasises practical motor vehicle experience, health and safety, and collaboration with learners and staff to develop confident, professional workshop habits.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification in Motor Vehicle Engineering or related area, ideally Level 3.
• Industry experience in motor vehicle engineering, maintenance, diagnostics or related automotive environment.
• Confidence using and maintaining workshop tools and equipment.
• Good knowledge of health and safety in automotive workshop settings.
• Strong organisation and ability to manage tools, vehicles and spaces.
• Supportive approach with students and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Prepare tools, equipment, vehicles and spaces for practical sessions.
• Support Motor Vehicle lecturers before, during and after practical delivery.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organised workshop environment.
• Demonstrate safe use of tools, equipment and workshop processes.
• Supervise and support learners in workshops and surrounding areas.
• Monitor tools, equipment, materials and stock levels.
• Carry out routine workshop checks and risk assessments.
• Report faults or safety concerns promptly.
• Promote safe working habits and professional standards.
• Support Open Evenings and taster sessions for Motor Vehicle events.
