Job summary

National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) in the UK is seeking a Secondary Automation Engineer to design, build and maintain automation for power system modelling and analytics. You will join a tight-knit team across NGED licence areas, delivering scalable workflows and data integrations.

The role offers hybrid working across office and home, with training and progression in a fast-moving energy network, emphasising data-driven development and automation expertise.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Python and SQL for data-driven solutions, automation and data integration.
  • Practical use of Python libraries such as Pandas and NumPy for cleansing, transformation and validation of large datasets.
  • Experience developing robust ETL pipelines from disparate systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and improve automated processes and workflows for power system models and analytics.
  • Enhance analysis capabilities through tools, integrations and automation to speed insights and scenario modelling.
  • Improve data quality and interoperability by automated validation and transformation, integrating modelling platforms with business systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering, IT&D and Geospatial teams to improve modelling workflows and digitalisation initiatives.
  • Support maintenance and development of NGED's secondary network modelling capability and outputs for stakeholders.
  • Contribute to regulatory and industry initiatives including CIM standards.
