Job summary

Amazon is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join the team at our highly automated Fulfilment Center. The role focuses on fault finding, troubleshooting and improving controls for automated material handling equipment, including conveyors and sortation systems.

You will train technicians on control systems fault finding, monitor performance, and collaborate with EU teams to enhance monitoring and data visualization.

Qualifications

  • Experience with PLC controlled automation and fault diagnosis in a continuous process/production environment.
  • Experience with material handling, flow and capacity visualization/monitoring.
  • Experience with PLC software/tools: Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Codesys, HMI, SCADA, and fieldbus networks.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

  • Be the site SME for all controls systems and sensors; monitor, fault find and repair to ensure high equipment availability.
  • Train technicians in basics of control systems fault finding to raise knowledge levels.
  • Collaborate within EU Controls network to monitor MHE metrics and provide visualization/data to internal customers.
  • Participate in or lead continuous improvement projects driven by EU Automation network.
  • Coordinate with IT and Engineering teams to document systems and maintain backup libraries.
  • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment with global teams.
  • Assist other sites in the EU network as required.

Job description

Here at Amazon we are looking to hire an experienced Automation Engineer to join the team in one of our highly automated and fast paced Fullfilment Center

Purpose of the job

The focus of the Automation Engineer (CSS) role is to fault find, troubleshoot and improve controls solutions for automated material handling equipment such as conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print and apply systems, scales, HMI systems, and control cabinets. The CSS will also provide training to the Engineering Technicians on device troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.

Key job responsibilities
  • Be the site level Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all controls systems and sensors within the building. Work in a hands on manner to actively monitor, fault find and repair systems in order to provide a high level of equipment availability to internal customers.
  • Train technicians in the basics of control systems fault finding in order to raise the level of knowledge within the site.
  • Work within the EU Controls network to enhance the capability to monitor MHE metrics and provide visualization and data to internal customers.
  • Actively participate in or own continuous improvement projects driven by the EU Automation network.
  • Work with IT, EU Automation Engineering and Operations Engineering to ensure all systems are correctly documented and that accurate backup libraries are maintained.
  • Work alongside global teams to support the installation and commission of new equipment.
  • Support other sites in the EU network as required.
Basic qualifications
  • Experience with PLC controlled automation and issue diagnosis in a continuous process or production environment
  • Experience dealing with material handling, flow and capacity visualization and monitoring
  • Experience with at least one of the following tools: Microsoft Office, project management tools, EPLAN, Ladder Logic and structure programming from Siemens, Allen-Brady or Codesys PLCs, Ignition SCADA or similar platform, Human Machine Interface (HMI), EthernetIP, Profinet, Profibus and AS-i or other fieldbus networks, VFDs, safety gateways, and input and output devices
  • Experience supporting a wide range of different conveyors and sortation systems
  • Speak, write, and read fluently in English
Preferred qualifications
  • Engineering Degree in UK Higher National Diploma (HND), Higher National Certificate (HNC), BTEC National Diploma and Certificate (OND/D), NVQ III/IV/V Engineering Manufacture (or similar), Ieng, CEng, ILM L3+ or a fully accredited apprenticeship with relevant follow on qualifications
