Job summary

Hunter Selection is seeking an Automation Engineer for a £60,000 salary and a Monday to Friday days role within a well‑established manufacturing business.

Reporting to the Engineering team, you will maintain and improve automated production systems, ensuring maximum equipment reliability, efficiency, and performance across the site.

You will program, modify, and support PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems, conduct root cause analysis, and support new equipment installations and automation projects.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Electrical/Automation Engineering or related field.
• Experience in manufacturing/FMCG/packaging environment.
• Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and optimise automated production equipment.
• Program, modify, and support PLC, HMI, SCADA systems.

Company Overview

Our client is a well-established manufacturing business with a strong reputation for quality, innovation, and continuous improvement. They are investing in their engineering capabilities and are looking for an Automation Engineer to support ongoing growth and operational excellence.

The Role

Reporting into the Engineering team, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving automated production systems, ensuring maximum equipment reliability, efficiency, and performance across the site.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain, fault-find, and optimise automated production equipment.
• Program, modify, and support PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions.
• Support new equipment installations, commissioning, and automation projects.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and performance.

Requirements

• HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
• Experience within manufacturing, FMCG, packaging, food & beverage, recycling, or a similar industrial environment.
• Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting skills (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar).
• Experience working with HMI and SCADA systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical control systems, drives, sensors, and instrumentation.
