Gymshark is seeking a frontend Automation Engineer to join our Quality Engineering team for mobile apps, building and scaling automated testing for iOS and Android. You’ll own automation suites, collaborate with mobile developers and QE, and help drive faster, more reliable releases.

This mid-level role focuses on automation ownership, while aligning with senior engineers on framework direction and best practices to raise our mobile quality bar.

Qualifications

• Experience building and maintaining full-code automation frameworks with Selenium/Appium.
• Strong Java or similar OO language experience; Kotlin/C# acceptable.
• Experience with BDD frameworks (Cucumber, SpecFlow).
• Experience running automated tests on BrowserStack and in CI/CD pipelines.

OVERVIEW:

We're looking for a frontend Automation Engineer to join our Quality Engineering (QE) team for our Mobile apps, helping us build and scale automated testing for our iOS and Android apps. You'll add to and maintain the automation framework that catch issues before customers ever see them, working closely with mobile developers, fellow automation engineers, and product teams to keep our releases fast and dependable.

This is a hands-on, mid-level role: you'll take ownership of automation suites and specific quality areas within mobile, while collaborating with senior engineers on framework direction and best practice.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

• Adding and maintaining automated tests for our iOS and Android apps in Java using Appium.


• Run and scale automated test execution across real devices and browsers using BrowserStack.


• Integrate mobile automation into CI/CD pipelines to support fast, reliable, and frequent releases.


• Collaborate with mobile developers and QE engineers to define test strategy and identify areas for automation coverage.


• Investigate test failures, distinguishing genuine defects from flaky tests, and drive fixes to improve suite reliability.


• Maintain and improve the Appium/Java test framework and our BrowserStack test infrastructure.


• Contribute to code reviews, share automation best practice, and help raise the overall quality bar across the mobile team.


• Report on test coverage and quality metrics to stakeholders across engineering and product.


• Explore and adopt AI and agentic tooling to speed up test creation, triage failures, and improve automation coverage.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Essential Criteria:

• Experience building and/or maintaining full-code automation frameworks with Selenium/Appium.


• Solid programming skills in an Object Oriented Programming language, including Java (ideal), C#, Kotlin etc.


• Experience with BDD frameworks (e.g. Cucumber, SpecFlow).


• Experience running automated tests on BrowserStack (or a similar cloud device platform).


• Experience running automated tests on CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Bitrise, CircleCI).


• A methodical, quality-first mindset with strong attention to detail and a knack for spotting edge cases.


• Good communication skills and comfort collaborating across engineering, QE, and product functions.

Preferred Skills:

• Meaningful hands-on experience automating and testing native mobile applications (iOS and/or Android).


• Understanding of mobile app architecture and the unique challenges of testing on real devices vs. emulators/simulators.


• Experience with performance or accessibility testing on mobile.


• Familiarity with API testing tools (e.g. Postman, RestAssured).
