Are you an experienced Automation Engineer with expertise in PLCs, robotics, industrial control systems and manufacturing automation?
We're looking for a hands-on engineer to join our growing engineering team, where you'll play a key role in developing, maintaining and improving automated production systems across our modern fabrication facility.

The Role
As our Automation Engineer, you'll be responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency and continual improvement of our automated manufacturing systems.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Programming, modifying and fault-finding Siemens PLC systems.
- Designing, configuring and maintaining HMI interfaces.
- Supporting industrial robotics, including programming, diagnostics and optimisation.
- Installing, commissioning and integrating new automated production equipment.
- Developing automation solutions to improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Diagnosing faults on PLCs, drives, motors, servo systems, sensors and industrial control systems.
- Supporting CNC machinery and automated fabrication equipment.
- Optimising machine performance to minimise downtime and increase productivity.
- Working on automation upgrades, retrofits and continuous improvement projects.
- Maintaining PLC backups, electrical drawings and technical documentation.
- Supporting preventative maintenance activities on automated systems.
- Working closely with production and engineering teams to deliver operational excellence.
- Ensuring compliance with all electrical, machinery safety and Health & Safety regulations.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking an engineer with a strong automation background gained within manufacturing or industrial environments.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as an Automation Engineer, Controls Engineer or Electrical Automation Engineer.
- Siemens PLC programming, diagnostics and commissioning.
- HMI development and troubleshooting.
- Industrial robotics programming and fault diagnosis.
- Experience with industrial automation and machine control systems.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Variable Speed Drives (VSDs)
- Servo systems
- Sensors and encoders
- Three-phase electrical systems
- Industrial control panels
- Experience commissioning automated machinery.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Experience delivering continuous improvement projects.
Desirable Experience
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
- CNC machinery
- Fabrication or metal processing
- Aluminium manufacturing
- Vision systems
- Pick-and-place robotics
- Ethernet/IP and industrial communication networks
- SCADA systems
- Machine retrofits and automation upgrades
- Electrical design using AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN
- Functional safety systems
Qualifications
Ideally you'll hold:
- HNC/HND in Electrical, Automation or Control Engineering
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
- Degree in Electrical, Controls or Automation Engineering (desirable)
Additional qualifications:
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671)
- Inspection & Testing (advantageous)
Safety & Compliance

- UKCA & CE Machinery Regulations

- Machine Risk Assessments
