Job summary

An educational support provider in the UK is looking for dedicated support staff to assist pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition. Job description
Role Purpose

To support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in accessing the curriculum, developing social and communication skills, and managing emotional and behavioural needs in a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism, both in and out of the classroom
  • Support pupils with communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering differentiated learning activities tailored to individual needs
  • Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs, IEPs, and behaviour support plans
  • Use visual timetables, structured routines, and sensory strategies to support learning
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and positive behaviour
  • Support pupils during transitions, break times, and unstructured activities
  • Monitor and record progress, behaviour, and achievements, providing feedback to teachers and SENCOs
  • Promote inclusion and ensure pupils are fully supported within the school environment
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and parents/carers
  • Follow safeguarding, health & safety, and school policies at all times
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Experience working with children or young people with autism (school, care, or support setting)
  • Strong understanding of ASC needs, including sensory processing and communication differences
  • Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
Desirable (Not Essential)
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • SEN training (ASC, ADHD, SEMH)
  • Experience with PECS, Makaton, or visual communication systems
  • Team Teach or de-escalation training
