Job summary

A specialist SEND school in Castle Bromwich is looking for an Autism Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with Autism and additional needs. The role involves assisting teachers, delivering tailored interventions, and promoting emotional regulation and independence. Applicants should have experience working with children or vulnerable adults and a passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This is a temporary role with potential for permanent placement.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with Autism (ASC) and additional needs during lessons and activities.
  • Assist the class teacher and other support staff in classroom management.
  • Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions tailored to learning styles.
  • Help manage behaviour positively and consistently.
  • Collect evidence of pupil progress to support assessment.
  • Promote independence, communication, and emotional regulation.

Skills

Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Calm, patient, and adaptable approach
Passion for supporting children with SEND
Knowledge of Makaton or sign language
Experience with ASC, ADHD, or SEMH

Hours: 35 hours per week (8:30am – 3:30pm)

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Temporary (potential for permanent placement)
