Job summary

Sopher + Co in Borehamwood is seeking an experienced Audit Senior to join our growing Audit and Accounts team.

This hands-on, client-facing role leads on-site audits, supervises junior staff, and collaborates with managers, directors and partners to deliver high-quality work in line with ISA(UK) standards.

You will develop technical audit expertise while maintaining strong relationships with a diverse client portfolio across multiple sectors.

Qualifications

• ACA/ACCA qualified is required.
• Strong technical knowledge and analytical ability essential for audits.
• Proficiency with accounting/audit software; CaseWare and Mercia advantageous.
• Advanced Excel and standard Microsoft Office skills expected.

Responsibilities

• Lead on-site audits from planning through completion for a varied portfolio.
• Supervise and coach junior team members; review work and ensure ISA(UK) compliance.
• Liaise directly with clients to develop strong working relationships and resolve queries.
• Prepare draft financial statements in line with FRS 102 and draft tax computations with Tax Department where required.
• Maintain client files and documentation per firm standards; keep abreast of audit developments.

The role

We're looking for an experienced Audit Senior to join our growing Audit and Accounts team in our Borehamwood office.

This is a hands-on, client-facing role with real responsibility. You'll lead on-site audit teams, supervise junior staff and work closely with managers, directors and partners to ensure audits are completed efficiently, to a high standard and in accordance with firm procedures. It's an excellent opportunity to further develop your technical audit expertise while supporting a diverse and prestigious client portfolio.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Lead audits from planning through to completion for a varied portfolio, including limited companies, groups, charities and other entities.


• Prepare audit planning documents, including designing tests for key audit risks.


• Manage fieldwork, review the work of junior team members and ensure compliance with UK Auditing Standards (ISA(UK)s).


• Liaise directly with clients, developing strong working relationships and resolving queries promptly.


• Prepare draft financial statements in accordance with FRS 102.


• Prepare draft corporation tax computations and liaise with the Tax Department where required.


• Ensure audit files are completed to a high standard, including completion memos, clearing review points and final analytical reviews.


• Supervise, coach and train junior team members, supporting their development.


• Prepare appropriate audit reports.


• Maintain client files and documentation in line with Sopher + Co standards.


• Keep abreast of developments in audit, accounting, taxation and relevant software.


• Maintain client confidentiality at all times in accordance with firm policies.

You'll also bring:

• ACA/ACCA qualified, with solid audit experience within a UK accountancy practice.


• Strong technical knowledge and analytical ability.


• Proficiency with accounting and audit software; experience with CaseWare and Mercia is an advantage.


• Advanced Excel skills and a solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office.


• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.


• A proactive and professional approach, with the confidence to build strong client relationships.


• Flexibility, adaptability and a willingness to support team development.


• A commercially minded outlook and the ability to build working relationships through credibility, trust and mutual respect.
